Bosence Recognised for its Sustainability

Posted on: December 10, 2014

Following hot on the heels of the successful ISO accreditation in Environmental Management, Bosence Farm Community was entered for the first time into the Cornwall Sustainability Awards.

The awards aim to celebrate and recognise the work that businesses and organisations in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are doing to be more sustainable, and Bosence were entered into the Best Managed Medium Business (between 10 and 50 employees) – and made the short-list!

This particular award is for companies that are reducing their environmental impacts regarding energy, pollution, water, waste, transport, purchasing, buildings, environmental management, and how they relate to their staff and wider community, so there is quite a real depth to the detail and effort that judging panel need to see evidence of.

Around 200 guests packed the Headland Hotel in Newquay on the 4th December to attend the awards ceremony, celebrating the awards 12th anniversary and the work businesses in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are doing to improve their sustainability.

The winners of the Best Managed Medium Business category were Natural Generation (a renewable energy installer), but I am very pleased to say that Bosence Farm Community was awarded Highly Commended.

The judging panel made the following comments about our entry:“In second place, Highly Commended position, is a company that we were really impressed by, particularly in terms of their commitment in going for formal accreditation and the monitoring instigated to demonstrate their improvements in a difficult business sector.  Their clear values and ethical stance shone through all they had achieved.”

This is a real recognition of the work everyone has done (and continues to do) here towards making us more environmentally friendly, and reduce our waste and costs; we are thrilled to have the award.
