Bosence Volunteer Recognised at Prestigious Awards Scheme

Posted on: December 1, 2016

Bosence Farm’s volunteer scheme is coming to towards its first anniversary of active volunteering work and one of the first volunteers has already been recognised with an award for his work!

Lee Haggarty (pictured here receiving his award from Colonel Bolitho, Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall) has been highly commended for his work as a volunteer at Bosence Farm at the recent Cornwall Volunteer Awards. This is the first award of this type for a volunteer at Bosence Farm and celebrates the work of Lee and all the volunteers supporting service users across our services.

This year’s ‘Cornwall Celebrates Volunteering Awards’ Ceremony took place on Thursday, 24th November at the Atlantic Hotel in Newquay. In front of an audience of invited guests, nominees and nominators, the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, Col Edward Bolitho, presented the Highly Commended and Winning Volunteers with their awards, assisted by the category sponsors.

The awards were set up to recognise the amazing work of some of the 140,000 volunteers in Cornwall. Lee’s award was in the hotly contested category for Personal Development & Overcoming Barriers.

Bosence Farm’s volunteer scheme  ‘Together – You Can Do it’ received funding from Awards 4 All from the Big Lottery Fund, the Duchy Health Charity, and the Health & Social Care Volunteering Fund to help cover initial set up project and the running costs, and is managed by Annie Woollock.   More information on joining our volunteer scheme can be found here.

The volunteers (recruited from both the local community and previous service users) help support and mentor clients at Bosence Farm with a range of activities that help to build their confidence and self-esteem, develop their social and practical skills and improve their social integration, as well as seeking more practical help to support the charity’s services, such as gardening, art and music workshops and driving people to appointments in the area.   At the end of its first active year we have seen it achieve some incredibly positive results and feedback.

Well done Lee, and thanks for your hard work and commitment. This award is very well deserved.
