Bosence Farm Community is thrilled to have been named as a finalist in the Best Third Sector category at the Cornwall Business Awards, alongside Shelterbox and Cornwall Air Ambulance.

The charity helps people recover from drug and alcohol addiction by providing residential rehabilitation and detox services, and is the only medical detox and stabilisation centre in Cornwall. The finalists were selected for ‘having exceeded expectations and forecasts’ and ‘having demonstrated tangible evidence of success and a clear and compelling vision for the future.’

CEO Kate Cook said; “We are thrilled to be named as finalists alongside these two amazing charities. This year is a very special year for us: it marks the 20th year of Bosence Farm opening its doors, and the 5th year of existence of Boswyns, our detox centre. The whole team has worked incredibly hard to make sure we continue to develop to be a centre of excellence at the forefront of innovative and drug alcohol treatment.”

After a major restructure three years ago, Bosence has reduced the average stay from 12-18 months, to a highly structured 12-week programme that has also seen their completion rates increase to over 70%, twenty percent higher than the national average of 50-53%.

Bosence has also recently achieved the CHAS Accreditation (a leading Health and Safety Accreditation Scheme) and become registered holders of ISO9001 (Quality Management Systems), ISO14001 (Environmental Management) and OHSAS 18001 (Health and Safety) Accreditations.

Kate continues; “Addiction has such a huge impact on everything it touches and the number of lives that have been saved/transformed as a result of being here is beyond measure; parents have their children back, and vice versa, and a huge and wide range of talents that had been lost or obscured through substance misuse, have been found again and returned to the community.”

The future of the charity is looking bright. They recently secured a grant of £483,000 from Public Health England to build a third unit, dedicated to providing flexible, safe, well-supported accommodation for families and young people. They are also beginning a pioneering volunteer programme to help ex-service users become peer mentors and support current clients, giving them a much needed boost to their self-esteem and belief that they can recover.

The Cornwall Business Awards are run by Cornwall Development Company in association with Business Cornwall Magazine and are now in their tenth year. They take place at St Mellion International Resort on 14 May.
